And then there were 7 (baby goats). This little surprise happened today! I was sure that Duchess was not pregnant, though she was bred late November. Well, she proved me wrong! This sweet tiny cutie was born sometime late morning while I was at work. 🥰

This "little" round "seal pup" is about ready to pop! I moved her into the "birthing suite" tonight to make sure she has her own space. Which means I had to move the triplets and their momma out and into the main pen. They were excited to have more room to frolic and new goats to try jumping on.

What a great way to wrap up this year's kidding season.The last two kids just arrived three days early! It was a very long day, but a very good one. I was the most nervous about this last kidding because Mojo is a first time mom. However, she did amazing and motherhood instantly clicked for her, which doesn't always happen.

And wow, three sets of twins this year! This last set, both girls.

This also means our second buck is a good breeder, as four of these kids are his!

And, it means our changes to improve fertility is working. My goal: no singles, but also no quadruplets.... Twins are the best in my book!

Maple (doeling, white with reddish-brown spots) and Aspen (buckling, white with black and brown spots) were both out and bouncing around like they'd been doing this goat-thing for years. Everyone is doing well and is snuggled up in fresh deep bedding.

I am Exhausted.

We use the deep litter method to keep the goats warm in the winter, which works great... But, cleaning out probably 2 feet of spent hay (and such) after winter decided to abruptly end this week with an 80 degree day, well... It took seven hours. (Dear Santa, please bring me a tractor)

On the plus side, it's done and we're just about ready for babies! Duchess is due this week. I just need to resupply our kidding kit and put down some straw and then I'm ready!

These boots were made for... barely lasting a year. Sigh.

I wear my barn boots at least twice a day in all weather. I swear I don't mistreat them, but I consistently send a pair, every year, to boot heaven. This isn't good for the environment or my wallet. Fingers crossed I found a better pair this year. It's an upgrade from these Ariats.

(Note my effort to save this pair with shoe glue and some crazy gorilla glue. It did work to reattach the soles, but then the leather ripped out.) 😞

Platinum, also called Platypus and Georgie (after the salt & pepper George Clooney), has great genetics, is just one year old, and is a really sweetie. He's a bit shy compared to his barn mates, but he's still getting used to his new home.

Looking forward to seeing his kids next spring! Planning on breeding him to Agate and Mojo.

If we get the right combination of kids we could be able to sell a breeding pair in the spring if anyone is looking to start their own herd!
